Truepic—a start-up with a consumer-side app and aspirations for killer commercial partnerships—hopes to bring confidence back to the phrase ‘what you see is what you get’.
For real #nofilter
These days, most photo and video apps compete based on how they can distort images in new and interesting ways. Truepic is using a contrarian strategy: strict originality and absolute authenticity.
Authentic duplicates
Users take photos or videos from directly within the app. Truepic will then embed verification metadata into the file, and store a 100% authentic copy of the image and its verified details in their online ‘vault’.
Files can be exported for use wherever. Exported files are rendered with a Truepic watermark and a URL where the image can be checked against the original, as stored in the Truepic vault.
True targets
Truepic’s consumer app is free on both iOS and Android. The app’s makers may be looking to monetise by proving the concept then selling their tech to larger third-party apps.
Perhaps the best indications of the app creator’s vision comes from their suggested uses, where they make explicit mention of AirBnB, eBay, Tinder and others. There have been hints that some such giants may already be on board.
