ANZ turns to social media for new recruits

ANZ Banking Group is hoping to reach new applicants with a global recruitment drive using social networking sites including LinkedIn and Facebook. The move comes as the bank seeks to expand its workforce and move away from a reliance on traditional recruitment channels.

A phased approach

Helping implement ANZ’s new approach is Taleo, who specialise in talent management software. The drive will roll out across social network channels in stages, beginning with a pilot program using LinkedIn’s job notice board and careers page, with Facebook integration launching later this month. Pending these results ANZ will look at using Twitter and YouTube to attract recruits in 2012.

The global push reflects ANZ’s recent overhaul of its recruitment strategy from a regional to super regional model. Prior to 2010 the bank employed individual recruitment teams, policies and delivery methods in a model that made it difficult to share ideas and innovations.

One global standard

By instigating a super regional strategy with a social media element, ANZ hopes to establish a recruitment standard that will strengthen its global infrastructure and attract the best applicants from the 32 markets it operates across.
