Google+ might be dying a slow, inglorious death, but that doesn't mean Google hasn't stopped trying to catch the cool kids' eyeballs.
The latest move on millennials is Google Duo, a video calling app.
Duo purpose?
Duo is designed to help you make video calls, just using your friend's phone number.
Google is billing the app as a simple, straightforward video calling app that works across Android and iOS.
Duo also features a Knock Knock feature, which lets you view footage of an incoming caller before deciding to accept the call.
Don't worry, all calls are end-to-end encrypted.
All alone?
The paired down offering of Duo is striking, considering what competitors Facebook Messenger and Skype are offering.
There's no group chat, text messaging, emoji, or integration with Google products such as Hangouts and Google's Android SMS app.
Straight talk
However, sometimes the simple things in digital life are best. Duo does not require a Google account to use, and is ready to use once downloaded.
