Microsoft and Dropbox are teaming up to take control of the cloud.
Cloud talk
The partnership sees file-sharing service Dropbox more closely integrated with Microsoft Office over desktop, web and mobile.
“We know that much of the world relies on a combination of Dropbox and Microsoft Office to get work done. In fact, Dropbox is home to over 35 billion Office documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
“That’s why we’re partnering with Microsoft to help you do more on your phones, tablets, and the web,” Dropbox's Ilya Fushman wrote in a blog post.
Two sided?
Dropbox mobile users will soon be able to link their account directly to Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps, allowing synching and editing on-the-go.
To make the offer more attractive, Microsoft has made subscription to Office 365 free.
However it's crowded up there in the cloud, with similar offerings from Google, Apple and virtually everyone in-between. Stay tuned to see if users flock to the Microsoft/Dropbox tag team.
