Messenger trials self-destruct option

You could never accuse Facebook of being inflexible when it comes to digital world domination.

The latest pivot sees Messenger testing a Snapchat-esque self-destruct function.

Select Messenger users in France have reported that their Messenger posts have been self-destructing.

While there's not much official info about the test, Facebook gave the following statement to The Verge.

"We’re excited to announce the latest in an engaging line of optional product features geared towards making Messenger the best way to communicate with the people that matter most.
 
"Starting today, we’re conducting a small test in France of a feature that allows people to send messages that disappear an hour after they’re sent."

Messenger is becoming a juggernaut of its own, even without the support of Facebook.
 
The app now has 700 million users, that's bigger than Twitter and LinkedIn's user base. And far higher than Snapchat's 100 million.
 
However it's still behind WhatsApp's 800 million users.
