While mobile use predictably explodes at regular intervals, a recent study shows that despite widespread adoption the field is narrowing between two big players: Facebook and Google.
App arm wrestle
A new report from comScore reveals that apps now account for 50% of time spent on mobile devices. However the number of app these users are accessing has shrunk.
Users now spend 42% of their app time within a single app.
Mobile megalomania
The report found that Facebook tops the list with both largest market share and time spent on its range of apps.
Making up the rest of the top ten are apps from Google, Apple, Yahoo, Amazon and eBay.
Behaviour patterns
Interestingly, iOS and Android users have markedly different behaviour patterns.
Apple devices tend to attract a younger crowd. Almost half (43%) of iPhone users are aged between 18 – 34, compared to 39% of Android users.
The iOS faithful are also more willing to spend online. The comScore report found that on average iPhone users spend 40% more online than their Android counterparts.
