Groupon has celebrated its upcoming fifth birthday by releasing a range of updates to its website and mobile apps.
Birthday wish
The new look Groupon website now features less clutter and larger images.
The update also features an increased emphasis on personalisation. Groupon now displays deals based on users' interests and purchase history.
Search functions have also been given a refresh and feature more sophisticated filters.
Mobile update
Groupon's apps for iPhone, iPad and Android have also been updated. The apps now detect when users change location and sends notifications for relevant, nearby deals.
Search is now easier on the apps, while the iPad app has a new personalised homepage. iPad owners can also 'favourite' a deal to make selecting them in future more streamlined.
Moving forward
Over the past five years Groupon has had mixed fortunes. Once a leader in the online deal market, Groupon has experienced problems with affiliate merchants, increasing competition from Facebook and in May fired its founder and CEO.
Yet these updates, which coincide with Groupon's fifth birthday, signal the company is far from calling it a deal.
