New Instagram algorithm focuses on Recent Posts

Instagram is unveiling a new algorithm focused on bumping current posts to the top of the feed.

Higher quality feed

In the wake of criticisms directed at the state of Instagram’s News Feed, the app has massaged its formula to hone in on more recent posts without losing your place, thanks to the planned update.

Users will now be able to manually press a “New Posts” button when wanting to refresh the current feed. This means users will no longer be jarred back up to the top of the feed as new content is posted.

Instagram originally retooled their feed back in June of 2016, switching from a “reverse chronological” feed to a relevancy-sorted feed.

Instagram uses its ears

According to VP of product Kevin Weil, Instagram remains “focused on making the feed fresher, with newer posts closer to the top.”

Curiously, Instagram remains untouched by the #DeleteFacebook movement directed at its parent company, and remains just as popular with its enormous userbase.

Instagram’s ability to pivot with user feedback remains its strongest asset, though it does highlight the contrast in user passions when it comes to data leakages versus News Feed algorithms.
