Martech Mashup: MS Pix links to LinkedIn

With a new ‘business card’ function, Microsoft Pix shows off how an AI-powered camera can be a business aide, with a handy little LinkedIn connection.

Point and connect

Open the Pix app on iPhone and point it at a business card. The app will do an auto-detect dance and let you know it sees something it can act upon.

If you tap the button, it’ll spin into action, reading numbers, email addresses and URLs from the business card.

From here, Pix will add the discovered info to your iPhone’s default Contacts app and—if signed in—to the LinkedIn app too. It’ll store the card details as ‘rich information’ and facilitate a ‘connect’ via the professional social network.

Tangible reasons to try

It’s good to see AI being used in an ‘intelligent camera app’ to do something tangible other than add decorations, dog ears and rainbow spew.

This genuinely makes Pix actually seem smart. If you’re a LinkedIn user, it could be worth keeping the app on your phone for this function alone.

Microsoft Pix is currently only available for iOS. As yet, there is no official word about if or when it will come to Android.

With Microsoft apps staying on-brand with promises of productivity and professionalism, are they becoming must-haves for every work phone?
