Can you guess the top TV shows on Twitter?

As the ratings season in the US draws to a close, Nielsen has released its list of the top TV shows on Twitter.

Ratings vs tweets

The Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings began in 2013, and involves Nielsen documenting how TV show 'rate' on Twitter by looking at metrics including mentions, hashtags and retweets when the show is broadcast.

The finale of Breaking Bad was the year's biggest hit, reaching 9.1 million Twitter users. At its peak the #GoodbyeBreakingBad hashtag was used over 300,000 times.

Nielsen also attributes the show's social success to the fact that Breaking Bad stars @BryanCranston and @aaronpaul_8 have large Twitter followings.

You're The Voice

The Voice accounted for the greatest amount of tweets send during a single episode. The May 13 screening attracted 1.92 million tweets, or 310,000 tweets per minute.

Oscar buzz

This year's Oscars were the most popular ever on Twitter, generating over 1 billion impressions during the live broadcast.

Things weren't hurt by host Ellen DeGeneres integrating Twitter into her routine, and posting the most famous selfie ever – which alone clocked up 1.1 million retweets.
