Earlier this month Instagram launched web profiles; this week the photo-sharing app continued its march from mobile to web with Instagram badges.
Badge of honour
Instagram announced the new tool in a blog post this week.
“Instagram badges are available in a range of sizes and can be easily added to your website, blog or anywhere that you want to link to your Instagram web profile,” the company wrote.
Hinting that badges are for brands as well as happy snappers, Instagram explained that badges can be added to brand websites or used in campaign promotions to “encourage others to discover and engage with your Instagram content.”
How it works
Users can access Instagram badges either through their Instagram web profile or by visiting instagram.com/accounts/badges.
Once a badge design is chosen users then paste a line of code to embed on their website or blog.
Photo finish
Instagram has had a productive year. First it was acquired by Facebook for a reported US $1 billion, then casually surpassed Twitter in active daily users.
By expanding its offering beyond mobile, Instagram lots set to get even bigger. And more brand friendly.
