Instagram Report Q1 2016

Online Circle Digital has just released the Instagram Report – Australia Q1 2016.

Through the analysis of 21 different industries and over 550 Australian brand and social media influencer accounts, the report ranks the largest and most engage Instagram accounts in Australia, utilising data from January 1 to March 31 2016.

SMK readers can download the report here.

Which brands performed best?

The report revels that social media influencers, followed by Musicians & Bands, have the largest number of followers in Australia, with average 1.1 million followers.

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, followed by boy band 5 Seconds of Summer and fitness blogger Kayla Itsines have the largest number of followers.

Which audiences were most engaged?

Social media influencers and Musicians & Bands also drive the highest engagement in Instagram.

Although more brands have flocked to Instagram recently to showcase more creative content, the biggest accounts in Australia are not brands but these influencers, speaking as peers to their highly engaged audiences.

What is next?

Recently Instagram announced its plans to follow in the footsteps of Facebook and Twitter with a new algorithm-based feed, rather than showing your entire feed in reverse-chronological order.

This news sent Instagram users into meltdown, causing the social media app to clarify the announcement by releasing a tweet declaring there would be no immediate changes. I guess we will need to wait and see.
