Pinterest launches Product Pins

Pinterest has just rolled out a new feature aimed at helping brands and marketers boost sales: Product Pins.

Pins are in

Pinterest software engineer Anna Majkowska announced the feature in a blog post

“When you find something you love on Pinterest, sometimes you want to learn more so you can act on baking those cookies, streaming that movie, or buying that couch. That’s why we’re taking a first step toward making pins more useful,” wrote Majkowska.

New content rich pins will contain information such as pricing, availability and where products can be purchased. Existing pins can also be updated to reflect the enchanced content.

Pinterest wrote that brands including Anthropologie, Asos and eBay are already using content Product Pins.

As part of the roll out Pinterest also updated Recipe and Movie pins, while making the Pin It button now available in mobile apps.

Pinteresting development

Over the past six months Pinterest has steadily been upping its offering for brands. In December the platform debuted Business Pages, and in May a new Discovery feature could be integrated with advertising campaigns.

And the data suggest Pinterest is an increasingly lucrative platform for marketers. This infographic from ViralBlog shows that pins displaying prices result in 36 per cent more Likes, and referrals from Pinterest spend 70 per cent more than users from other channels.

To get the new Product Pins click the 'Get it now' button on the top of the home page.
