Social media ad spend is predicted to overtake global newspaper ad revenues by 2020.
Post all about it
Zenith Optimedia has released a report forecasting social media ad spend will account for 20% of all internet advertising by 2019, around US$50 billion.
This is 1% less than the predicted newspaper revenue for the same year, and Zenith believes social media spend will comfortably leapfrog the printing presses by 2020.
More broadly, global advertising expenditure is expected to grow 4.4% this year, around the same rate as 2016.
Video spend up
Online video advertising looks like one of the biggest growth areas, and is estimated to be worth US$35.4 billion by 2019.
This places online video slightly ahead of radio advertising, but still some way behind TV budgets. For now.
