A new study has revealed that only half of Australian SME’s (Small and Medium Enterprises) use a website to promote their business, while those that do use little to no SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), meaning potential lost opportunities for increased web traffic.
The study, released by website optimisation system provider NLYZR, assessed 6,000 Australian websites and determined that 87% of SME sites displayed sub-standard SEO and 29%, no SEO at all. Considering 97% of Australians use a search engine when shopping online, establishing strong SEO is essential to increase search engine ranking and connect with consumers.
Simple strategies to improve SEO include using relevant keywords on sites and developing inbound links from relevant and/or credible sites. Strong, relevant content which is regularly updated can also enhance SEO.
With Australians poised to spend $13 billion online this year, optimising SEO is an essential part of any online strategy.
