Yahoo has rolled out a new search function using Yelp to gain the upper hand in the battle for social search.
Them's fighting words
Yahoo announced the news in a blog post, explaining Yelp user reviews will now be integrated with Yahoo search results.
“Now when you use Yahoo Search to look up a local business in the U.S. on your smartphone, tablet, or PC, you’ll see user reviews, business information, and star ratings from Yelp,” wrote Anand Chandrasekaran, Yahoo's Senior Director, Product Management.
So when a user looks up a local business such as a restaurant, Yelp reviews and ratings plus high-quality photos will now be displayed.
Search and ye shall find?
While the partnership isn't exactly groundbreaking (Microsoft has had a similar deal with Yelp since 2012) it does add another feather to Yahoo's social search cap.
The big question is whether user reviews will make a dent in Google – which continue to lead the pack by several country miles.
