YouTube has just unveiled a major update for its Android app that allows multitasking and a new look interface.
Multitasking
While YouTube continually tweaks its mobile apps, this is the biggest update for Android in some time.
The app now allows users to minimise videos while searching or browsing channels on YouTube. As the video is being minimised the sound will fade and the video will continue to play in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Previously, users had to stop a video to perform other functions.
Search
The update also makes it easier to search for playlists, like videos, access browsing history and watch collections of videos back-to-back.
This will make it easier for brands with channels to gain extra views.
Synchronicity
The update also works with Google Chromecast (a service that allow users to enjoy online videos and music on their TV). The Android app now shows a preview screen of what is playing on your Chromecast-enabled TV, making it easier to schedule clips and tracks.
The update reflects the growing Android market and YouTube's commitment to getting users to stay on the platform for longer – an agenda which dovetails nicely with its increased advertising push.
