Here at SMK we like a good infographic as much as the next person, and recently came across an interesting one from marketing agency Saxum.
To mark the recent Social Media Day on June 30, Saxum put together an infographic that charted user activity across the major platforms on a typical day. Here are some of the highlights.
Facebook first
Facebook remains the firm favourite with users. Of Facebook's 1 billion users, 618 million (61.8 per cent) are active users. And they are busy.
They spend one out of every seven minutes online on Facebook, while almost a quarter check their newsfeeds more than five times per day.
Over 24 hours, Facebook will see 350 million photos uploaded and clock up 2.7 billion likes.
Searching for tweets
Twitter has 554 million users, but only 9.6 million (1.7 per cent) of these are active users.
Still, Twitter processes 400 million tweets and a mammoth 2.1 billion search queries per day. That's almost half the amount handled by Google.
For those who are interested, Justin Bieber gains almost 75,000 new followers every day on Twitter.
Liking the links
LinkedIn now has 250 million US users, with 78.8 million (35 per cent) classed as active.
In a typical day 1370 companies are added to LinkedIn, 10 million endorsements are generated and 172,800 new users sign up. These users apparently like to seize the moment: LinkedIn's traffic is highest during the morning.
