Facebook signs Spanish Football exclusive

Facebook has finalised a deal that will make them the sole coverage provider to specific nations for the next three years.

Facebook has recently bartered an unprecedented deal that will make them the exclusive provider of La Liga to viewers of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, The Maldives, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.  

With the rights having recently expired by the previous holder, Sony Pictures Network, Facebook took their shot though the full terms have yet to be disclosed.

The last time the rights were up for sale Sony paid $32 million, according to Reuters. This marks Facebooks single biggest move into sport streaming services.

Sporting history

Facebook has already been airing Major League Baseball within the US for a reported $1 million per game, which uses a freemium model but supports targeted advertisements.

The La Liga deal isn’t the only online streaming deal. The Premier League is wrapping up their final fully-televised season, as next year 20 games are announced to be online-only.

Cord cutters rejoice.
