Nike has announced it will soon start selling products directly via Amazon and Instagram.
Nike sports new approach to retail
Clothes, shoes, and accessories are all available direct from the source thanks to a new partnership with Amazon. No longer will the sporting goods giant need to lose earnings through third-party vendors.
The pilot project marks the company’s first attempt to sell direct to consumers, allowing them to take back control of pricing. To sweeten the deal, Amazon will also be curtailing sales of counterfeit merchandise.
But that’s not all, consumers will also be able to purchase Nike products through the Instagram app as well.
Instant Nike through Instagram
The deal is projected to save Nike over US$200 million with direct-to-consumer online shopping.
The move isn’t just to have a stronger online presence, but to reach a larger millennial base who prefer the Amazon shopping experience.
Nike as announced its fourth-quarter earnings at US$8.7 billion, up 5% from last year, with a net increase of 19% at US1 billion. After the Amazon deal, these numbers may get bigger.
