Yahoo and Yelp are reported teaming up to offer an increased focus on local search.
Search party
According to The Wall Street Journal, Yahoo recently signed an agreement that would see Yelp power Yahoo Search through local business reviews and listings.
The update could give a boost to Yahoo's search ads, which account for over a third of Yahoo's revenue.
In the final quarter of 2013 Yahoo's search ad revenue rose 8 per cent to US$461 million.
Closing the gap
Yahoo is slowly but surely becoming a force to be reckoned with, recently acquiring Tumblr and even passing Google for popularity briefly in 2013.
Yahoo now accounts for 10.8 per cent of the US search market, compared to Bing's 18.2 per cent and Google's commanding 67.3 per cent share.
If Yelp's local listings take off that gap might be set to shorten.
