Three ways to work smarter in 2014

It might be mid-February, but it's still not too late to put in place your resolutions for the new year.

So SMK thought it timely to put together three easy ways to keep on top of your professional life and clear the clutter in 2014.

Ease back on email

It's tempting, not to mention addictive, to constantly check and respond to email messages. Yet taking a break from emails can be a great way to increase your productivity – and piece of mind.

Try checking emails in the morning and towards the end of the day, instead of interrupting other tasks with email responses.

It might be difficult at first but you'll soon find you have a lot more time up your sleeve. Resist the temptation to use it responding to more emails!

Make a list – and keep to it

It's easy to get bogged down with tasks, happily it's just as easy to keep on top of your to-do lists with a range of organisation apps.

Free apps like To-Do, Wunderlist and Evernote all offer different ways to prioritise and complete tasks.

Have a play around with a few, find the one that works for you and you're halfway down the path the organisation nirvana.

Consolidate

SnapChat, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Weibo – the number of social sites you need to be across is constantly growing and evolving.

If you're not in a position to hire a dedicated social media specialist, consider tools like HootSuite and Social Oomph, which allow to you schedule and respond to posts across a variety of platforms.
