After much flip-flopping on the issue, eBay has decided mobile advertising is on the money.
Buy and sell
Ebay will launch its ad network in the UK later this year, ahead of a wider global roll out. Ads will initially only appear on the homepage, with eBay in talks with FMCG and tech brands to power the ads.
Previously, eBay had stated that mobile advertising would distract users from the business of buying and selling.
Mobile mark up
While there's still limited details about the ads, it's speculated brands will be able to choose from a variety of formats including video and downloads.
In 2013 eBay amassed US$450 million from advertising.
With 40% of all transactions on the platform having a mobile component, expect that number to rise when mobile ads roll out.
