Facebook has just updated its rules and regulations around running promotions. Here's a quick guide on what you need to know.
Like gating
The end of requiring users to Like a Facebook Page to enter a competition is over.
While many brands have used this feature to boost fan counts, the practice will be prohibited from November 5.
The process, termed Like gating, is being banned because Facebook says these Likes do not accurately reflect the user's interests.
Facebook explains this ultimately reduces the relevant content these users and their friends are exposed to.
Get cracking
The update reflects Facebook's attempt to provide higher quality, more targeted content (and ads) on the News Feed.
While the ruling is probably a plus for users, it will take away an easy win for brands looking to attract Likes without having to pay.
