Facebook figures mobile users have had ample time to get used to video ads – now it's going to start autoplaying them.
Play on
Facebook announced the news in a blog post.
“This holiday season and moving forward, when eligible, video mobile app ads will play automatically in News Feed.
“Additionally, advertisers are now able to purchase mobile app ads with video creative through Power Editor,” the company explained.
As part of the update, Facebook announced it is also improving ad targeting for the Amazon Fire smartphone.
Lights, camera, action
While Facebook video ads have been around since March, autoplay on mobile means users will have a harder time ignoring them.
This could mean greater cut-through for brands looking to stand out in the increasingly crowded News Feed, especially considering around half of all Facebook users are mobile.
