Number Crunch: Instagram

Today we're looking at the charmed life of Instagram, everyone's favourite platform whose popularity shows no sign of slowing.

Picture this

Instagram now have over 300 million active users. By some counts that's more than Twitter.

Of these, a very respectable 75 million are daily active users. In fact, over 13% of all internet users are on Instagram.

Image is everything

While Instagram is wildly popular in its native US (where 27% of internet users have accounts), over 70% of Instagram users hail from other parts of the globe.

Age barrier

Close to half (41%) of Instagram users are aged between 16 – 24, while 23% of teens name the platform their preferred social network.

Big business

According to research by Forrester, Instagram leads the pack when it comes to engagement.

Analysis of 3 million posts found that on average Instagram attracted 58 times more engagement per follower than Facebook, and 120 times more than Twitter.

Short and sweet

The average post on Instagram is 138 characters long, including hashtags.

Posts featuring @mentions see a 56% increase in engagement.
