So what's in store for Twitter in 2016? Read on to find out.
#Hashtag
Twitter turns 10 this year, and a decade on the platform now boasts 650,000 users. Around half of these are daily active users.
Every second 9100 are sent, while Twitter's search engine processes a mammoth 2.1 billion queries every 24 hours.
Third parties
While Twitter has gradually been rolling out more functions for brands, it's still got some way to go before reaching the functionality of Facebook.
Currently 60% of tweets come from a third-party service.
Global players
While Twitter is available in hundreds of countries, the top five countries who can't get enough of tweeting are Indonesia, Brazil, Venezuela, The Netherlands, and Japan.
Money matters
In 2013 Twitter amassed US$405 million in advertising revenue. In 2014 that figure rose to US$479 million.
And in case you were wondering, Twitter's iconic bird logo does have a name: Larry.
