YouTube launches YouTube Pro

YouTube has passed a number of milestones over the eight years it's been in existence. Besides being the biggest video sharing service on the planet, YouTube is also the second most popular search engine and has 1 billion monthly users.

But one thing YouTube is trying to change is the quality of the 100 hours of footage that users upload every hour. The latest initiative to curate more quality content is YouTube Pro.

Lights, camera, monetise

YouTube Pro is a video series that will offer would-be auteurs advice on everything from crowd-funding and dealing with advertisers to production tips.

The series will be hosted by top YouTube creators, who are aiming to help users create and make money from quality video content.

Roll camera, and bank notes

The series comes as YouTube explores ways for users to make revenue from their videos.

In 2011 YouTube launched Channels, where it partnered with video makers to create custom content. In May the platform rolled out paid subscriptions, which charges users for view premium content.

More recently, YouTube introduced a Partner Program, which brings brands and their agencies in house for video training.

The world's biggest video store

All this investment isn't for nothing. The top 1000 channels on YouTube net an average of US $23,000 in monthly ad revenue, while 350 social interactions are generated for each minute of video uploaded.

The YouTube Pro series may assist SME's and high-profile users make the switch from hobby to income stream. But whatever happens, don't be on cat videos going anywhere anytime soon.
