With video being one of the hottest buzzwords being banded about on social, it's only natural a raft of apps should spring up to address the growing demand for moving pictures.
Fresh from being the surprise superstar at this year's SXSW, today we're looking at Meerkat.
Live streaming
Meerkat is an iOS app that brings live video streaming to your iPhone via Twitter.
Once downloaded, you must allow Meerkat to login to your Twitter account. From here you then create a 'stream', where your live video broadcast is hosted.
Once set up, a link will be sent out showing a live feed from your iPhone's camera. Your followers will also receive a link advising a new stream is about to commence.
While Meerkat works over cellular networks, a strong wifi connection is recommended.
Photogenic
Meerkat shows you which users are viewing your stream, while messages are displayed on the side of the screen.
Viewers can access your stream from any device, however they can only send messages from a mobile device.
Once a stream is finished Meerkat allows you to save the clip to your camera roll. However at the time of writing there was no way for viewers to save your stream.
Zeitgeist
While Meerkat still has a few bugs to iron out, it represents a potentially big shift for how brands and bloggers can use live video for events and activations.
We'll have to wait and see if Meerkat's stream turns into a torrent.
