Three ways to create killer content

Content marketing is the buzzword of choice at the moment for social. The term refers to the creation of collateral such as blog posts, images and videos to connect with an audience and softly convey a marketing message. Essentially marketing by not marketing.

That's all well and good, but how does that translate into something tangible for your brand? We've taken a look at a recent infographic from Marcus Sheridan and pulled out three ways to win with content marketing.

1. Listen

It might sound like a no brainer, but social media is a conversation, not a pulpit. Listen to what your customers and competitors are saying and interested in.

Whenever a customer posts a comment or asks a question make sure you listen and respond.

2. Research and tag

While some suggest that content marketing is at odds with SEO, the truth is both approaches compliment each other.

This means if you're producing content such as blog posts, make sure you research relevant keywords to include. It will not only help with SEO, but make it easier for your customers to discover content that matters most to them.

This thinking extends to photos, blog titles and videos as well. Make sure you tag them so customers (and Google) can find them.

3. Be honest

This doesn't necessarily mean posting the contents of your diary online, but customers will respond more positively if you post honest responses instead of passing the buck or worse, ignoring their feedback.

At some point all brands experience a customer that has an issue with their business or product. It’s best to always acknowledge the problem and offer solutions, if it’s a little uncomfortable in the short term.
