A recent study of young people (18 – 24) in the United States and United Kingdom has revealed some interesting insights into their appetite to marketing messages and purchasing on mobile devices. Almost one in three respondents would like promotions sent to them via mobile, and one in three have made or considered making purchases via smartphone.
Connected
90% of respondents spend 1 – 5 hours on mobile devices each day. Almost 10% spend five – ten hours on mobile devices each day.
Location
Although 66% of consumers don’t want brands to know where they are, 33% of consumers think it’s important to tailor offers to their location.
Knowing me knowing you
40% of respondents only want deals which are relevant to them, whilst 34% only want to see promotions from brands they have used before.
Barriers
27% of respondents wouldn’t purchase via mobile due to security concerns. 48% found the risk of signing up to fake websites a concern, whilst 56% were worried about their credit card details being stolen. Over 50% worried about unauthorised access to their personal accounts.
In the back pocket
18% of respondents preferred to purchase via smartphone over in person or on a computer.
