Facebook ads are now appearing in users’ news feeds labelled as Featured Stories. Paid news pieces were previously known as Sponsored Stories.
A lot to like for brands
The ads are being rolled out to users’ news feeds in the form of a story or post about a brand the user or the users' friends have liked.
Information featured in the ads includes updates, when friends like a brand, check in or use an app.
Facebook ads on the right rail are still called Sponsored.
Easy does it
Facebook is slowly rolling out Featured Stories, to avoid the backlash that typically accompanies changes that further commercialise the site.
For now users will only see one Featured Story per day, and the ads will not appear on the mobile version of the site.
