Less than a day after announcing it would sponsor 2DayFM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show, Jenny Craig has backed out of the deal after considerable pressure from its customer base.
Weighing the options
Shortly after announcing it would sponsor the controversial radio show, Jenny Craig’s US Facebook page was inundated with consumers unhappy with the move. Many posts pointed to Kyle Sandilands' past comments regarding former Jenny Craig ambassador Magda Szubanski, whom he once suggested would lose more weight in a concentration camp.
Jenny Craig responded by issuing a statement explaining that it would stand by its decision, and promoted the hashtag #tellkylewhatyouthink on its Australian Twitter page.
The feedback was overwhelmingly negative, and today Jenny Craig announced that it would pull all advertising from the show.
Kyle’s curse strikes again
Controversy is nothing new to shock jock Sandilands, who made headlines last November after describing a News Limited journalist as a “fat slag”.
That move saw several prominent advertisers, including Holden, pull their support for the show. Jenny Craig was the first new advertiser to sponsor the show since then.
