Automated Captions for Google Slides

Google has announced an interesting feature to its Slides platform presentation tool.

Do it real-time

Google users can now add captions to live feed presentations during an active feed. The feature has been developed by the same team that revamped screen reader, magnifier, and Braille support for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

The new accessibility features are available for US English configurations and use Chrome as their default browser. The plan is to add more languages as they go.

CC works for me

To activate, users press the “CC” button on the Slides’ navigation box and then use the computer’s microphone – business as usual.

Both Microsoft and AWS have added similar speech-to-text feature’s to their own API which shows that the tech has come a long way and the demand has simply been waiting.
