Pinterest may be best known for its namesake Pins, but video is growing on the platform.
Last year Pinterest released its own video player and Promoted Videos. Now it's published a best-practice guide to using video. Below are the key takeaways.
How-Tos and Storytelling
Pinterest says its users are 75% more likely to watch videos about topics that interest them. This is ahead of 55% of users on other platforms.
Pinterest research found storytelling and how-to videos worked best, across a range of brand categories.
So which one do you choose?
What's the Story?
Pinterest reckons storytelling videos are best suited for showing off things like brand assets, sharing news, and product launches.
For example, Hunter used this style in a series of emotive videos for the launch of their Core Concept colourful rain boots. This resulted in Hunter's Pinterest branded search traffic rising 30%.
How-To?
How-to videos are best for education, tutorials, and process overviews. They can also be short and snazzy.
Pinterest used the example of Lowe's, which created a series of how-to videos around home renovation. The videos attracted twice the standard completion rates for videos over 25 seconds.
