Google is relaxing its rules around certain types of mobile ads previously restricted on the AdSense platform.
Mobile dollar signs
Google will now allow mobile ads to appear “above the fold” (that is, ads which can be viewed without scrolling down the page).
Eligible ads are 300×250 medium rectangle, and Google says they must not “annoy, distract, or result in ad performance issues”.
Good UX?
The decision could be seen as a response to the current preference for larger screened phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 7 Plus.
However Google is cagey on why exactly it did a 180 on restricting these ads, simply saying the decision was made after “careful review”.
Here's hoping it also means these ads are less annoying.
