Number Crunch: Google Q3

It's always hard to write up a stats piece about Google when there's just so many juicy figures to choose from.

Do we focus on Search, G+, Adwords, Android, Chrome, or Google Glass?

After a bit of digital digging here's what we've found from the gob-smacking world of Google in late 2014.

Search

Google processes 2 million search requests every second, while every day 20 Google trawls some 20 billion websites for information.

All this info is stored in massive data centres that cost US$600 million a pop.

Selfie

Over 56% of internet users admit to Googling themselves, while it's estimated just half of all Google searches are secure.

Money matters

At last count Google owned 160 companies. The most expensive was Motorola Mobility, acquired for US$12 billion in 2011. In 2014 Google has scooped up another 24, that's around two per month.

In 2013 Google made a tidy US$5.5 billion in revenue. Over 91% of this came from advertising.

Welcome to the family

Google is also famously generous to its employees. Apart from time to work on personal products, free food and even a ball pit, Google also has a real life T-Rex fossil (called Stan) in its headquarters.

Besides being pretty cool, Stan is supposed to remind employees not to let Google go extinct.

Logo loco

Google can't be accused of standing still. It changes its logo more than any other company in the world.
