Everyone knows YouTube is practically synonymous with the term video when it comes to online content, as the platform gradually moves from home movies to a more monetised model.
A new infographic from Empower Network gives a new slant into the current state and stats of the world's leading video platform.
Early days
In April 2005 history was made when the first ever YouTube clip was uploaded, titled “Me at the zoo“.
Back then a modest 65,000 videos were viewed every day on YouTube. Today that figure is over 2 billion.
Young Americans
While YouTube is available in 19 countries and 12 languages, the US still accounts for over 70 per cent of all YouTube users.
Of these, over half are under 20 years old.
The median strip
The average user spends 15 minutes on YouTube every day, and every minute 24 hours of footage is uploaded to the platform.
YouTube now uses the same amount of bandwidth the entire internet did in 2000.
In fact, you'd have to live to the ripe age of 1000 to watch all the content currently on YouTube.
Bieber fail
The most unpopular video on YouTube is Rebecca Black's Friday, and the most disliked person is Justin Bieber.
Maybe he should stick to Twitter.
