Snapchat has launched an online store in their media section, in order to generate more e-commerce amid lacklustre profits last quarter.
Digital world to real world
The Discover section is now offering Snapchat-branded merchandise directly through the app, meaning you too can own a plush dancing hotdog.
Originally reserved for publishers including BuzzFeed, Condé Nast, and Vice, the Discover section was meant to link users to publishers with dedicated channels.
Now users can buy a $20 plushy, a $30 hat clad with fire emoji, or even a Snapchat sweatshirt for a clean $50.
Selling Snapchat swag only
Both Facebook and Instagram have already shaped themselves as online shopping destinations with a great deal of success. Snapchat however is playing off its timed video niche, encouraging users to ‘swipe up’ to purchase, before stock runs out.
With a fresh quarterly report due in the coming weeks, the new endeavour will have to wait three months to see if Snapchat users are taking the bait – or plushy dancing hotdog.
Are you inclined to purchase Snapchat merchandise, let along through the app? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
