Another week, another Messenger update. Shortly after receiving a brand new AI, now Facebook's favourite messaging app now allows Group Payments.
Pay to play
To start shelling out, go to a new or existing Messenger group conversation and tap on the plus sign in the bottom left hand corner. Then hit the $ icon. You can now select who to send or request money from, or choose the entire group.
You've also got the option of choosing a total amount, and Messenger will split it evenly between the group. A message will appear in the conversation, tracking who has paid.
More money
Payments have ben available on Messenger since 2015, but until now only between two people.
The update could help when splitting a communal gift, or when out to dinner with friends. It could also get more users on the app ahead of a planned ads push.
Group payments are now available in the US on Android and desktop. Expect a wider roll out if it takes off.
