Periscope Analytics

Periscope – Twitter’s live streaming video app – now gives broadcasters a better understanding of what’s going on with a new analytics dashboard.

What it’s got

Periscope producers have previously had to rely on third-party platforms or nothing at all to record their periscope metrics. Now, Twitter is launching its own analytics dashboard.

Presently in public beta, the new analytics dashboard will report:

  • Video duration
  • Hearts
  • Viewers per video
  • Time watched per viewer, live
  • Time watched per viewer, on replay

It also shows a handy bar graph indicating total viewers for each video that’s you've streamed.

What it's not

Periscope Analytics dashboard is not yet configured for real-time feedback. It summarises broadcast data after streaming is complete.

Presently only gives info on an overall broadcast – there is no breakdown for segments within it. It’d be nice to see a minute-by-minute tracking of viewers, so producers can evaluate where momentum builds and when it drops off.

It is hoped that these extra-useful functions be built in soon.

Step to success

Registered users can access their Periscope Analytics dashboard easily, by logging in to the services site and navigating to their account profile.

The info available at launch is enough to let broadcasters start evaluations. If Twitter fills some of the gaps, this might become a genuinely useful tool to guide online video making.
