Facebook is reportedly toying with the idea of LinkedIn-style profile tags.
Tag team
According to The Verge, the new feature allows users to tag their own Facebook profile, while tags can also be added by friends. However these must be approved before going public.
"Created by a small team as part of a Facebook hackathon, profile tags are a creative tool that lets you and your friends add tags to your profile to highlight the things that describe you and what you're into,” a Facebook spokesperson confirmed.
The tags can be about any topic, and can even include emojis.
LinkedIn Likes
LinkedIn pioneered the profile tag, which lets users add professional qualifications and skills to their account.
However in the hands of Facebook users, tags are more likely to carry personality traits and interests – info that might be handy for marketers down the track.
At present profile tags is being tested in New Zealand. Stay tuned for news of a wider roll out.
