Ever wondered if the type of photo filter you choose really makes a difference?
Yahoo did, so it commissioned a study to find out.
Filtering effect
Yahoo Labs looked at 7.6 million Flickr photos to determine if filters led to increased engagement.
It turns out they do, by quite a lot. Photos with filters were 21% more likely to be viewed, and almost 50% more likely to be commented on.
Picture perfect
Interestingly, Yahoo Labs found that filters featuring warm tones and correct exposure were most popular with users, compared to photos with filters adding cooler temperatures.
It also turns out everyone from professional photographers to casual snappers are partial to using filters.
While the study just focused on Yahoo-owned Tumblr, the large sample size indicates its finding may apply to other photo-sharing platforms like Instagram.
