It's no secret that the Twitter timeline can be a busy place – something the platform is trying to address with a new 'Quality Filter' update.
Quality not quantity
Now select users are receiving the following notification when they log in to Twitter.
"Quality Filtering aims to remove all Tweets from your notifications timeline that contain threats, offensive or abusive language, duplicate content, or are sent from suspicious accounts."
Spam killer?
The feature makes sense for Twitter, which has recently experienced a number of serious incidents of online bullying and spam. A leaked internal memo from Twitter CEO Dick Costolo recently revealed how seriously Twitter is taking the problem.
In the weeks since the revelation Twitter has released a series of tools making it easier to report abusive or bullying behaviour on the micro-blogging platform.
At the time of writing the update was available to selected verified iOS users, with a wider roll out expected shortly.
