While we're still waiting for it to officially launch in Australia, video streaming service Netflix is continuing to grow in leaps and bounds in the US.
Video victory
A new report from Sandvine claims that Netflix now accounts for a massive 35% of US internet traffic.
Netflix commands over 34% of downstream and 9% of upstream during peak periods on US landlines.
To give this more context, Sandvine speculates Netflix is using 20% more downstream bandwidth than closest rival YouTube. The only player ahead of Netflix is torrent site BitTorrent.
Down the tubes
The report marks a big year for streaming video. Over the past 12 months Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr have all released video advertising, with other platforms looking to jump on board next year.
In the meantime, Australia and New Zealand will have to wait to see what all the Netflix fuss is about until it launches in 2015.
