After a leak last week that set internet tongues wagging, Instagram has officially launched its Snapchat rival Bolt.
Insta-message
Bolt is a messaging app that lets users send photo and video messages, and easily delete them by tapping on their smartphone screen.
The app is available on iOS and Android, however at time of writing Bolt is only available in New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa.
Presumably once the bugs are ironed out other regions will follow.
Catch up game
Facebook, which owns Instagram, appears set on dominating the messaging market – and directly taking on Snapchat in the process.
Bolt seems similar to Facebook's own fledgeling messaging service Slingshot. And don’t forget Facebook also happens to own WhatsApp.
All of which might be making for a few sleepless nights over at Snapchat HQ.
