Facebook still top of the pops with young adults

Despite recent reports predicting Facebook's untimely demise with teens, a new study shows Facebook is still top dog when it comes to young adults.

Popularity content

A recent study from the Harvard Institute of Politics that surveyed over 3000 people aged 18 – 29 years old found that the vast majority remained active Facebook users.

The survey, which included questions about social media use, revealed that over 84 per cent of participants had a Facebook account.

Conversely, less than 50 per cent of participants used rival social media sites.

Second place

Coming in second after Facebook was Google+ (44 per cent), ahead of Twitter (40 per cent), Instagram (36 per cent) and Pinterest (33 per cent).

While G+ might seem an unlikely second-place getter, the high ranking might be attributed to the fact that Google now requires all Gmail users to have a G+ account.

Teen dream

While the lucrative teen and young adult markets are undoubtably flocking to new kids on the block like SnapChat, it doesn't mean they're closing their Facebook accounts.

Something for marketers to keep in mind when targeting these valuable, sometimes fickle users.
