It isn't breaking news that teens are turning off Facebook, however a new study shows how acute the problem appears to be.
No teen dream
According to a study from iStrategyLabs, the number of teen users has dropped by 3 million since 2011, marking a decline of 25 per cent.
Close behind comes the 18 – 24 age group, which saw a drop of 7.5 per cent.
Interestingly, sign up figures for users aged 55 and above are going in the opposite direction. Since 2011 the number of Facebook users in this demographic jumped by 80.4 per cent.
Demographic shift
While the figures have been pulled from Facebook advertising and aren't officially recognised, they do indicate a startling shift in the demographic makeup of Facebook.
But even if Facebook is losing the edge when it comes to the lucrative teen and young adult market, the social network's got a very big ace up its sleeve.
They own Instagram, one of the most popular platforms with teens.
