In many ways Google+ remains the least understood (some would say black sheep), of the social platforms.
In two years Google's social platform hasn't exactly won hearts like the Instagrams and Vines of the world, yet G+ has steadily built up an engaged user base and vast array of features.
SMK takes a look at the latest stats to have a deeper look into Google+.
Top users
Google+ might have a reputation for attracting the tech crowd, but most of the top five users on the platform are bonafide celebrities.
Britney Spears is the world's most popular G+ user with 7.6 million followers.
Making up the top five is Lady Gaga (7.5m), Google CEO Larry Page (6.9m), David Beckham (6.3m) and Snoop Dogg (6.2m).
Australian users
Hugh Jackman is the Australian with the largest number of followers – he currently has 4.7 million.
Julia Gillard is the most popular politician on the platform with just over 20,000 followers.
Australian brands
Australian brands are increasingly making an impact on Google+.
The five biggest Australian brands are the Sydney Opera House (237,629 followers), Telstra (49,434), Vodafone Australia (41,720), Kogan (12, 627) and carsales.com.au (11,346).
Demographics
Google+ remains a male-dominated platform. Males make up almost 70 per cent of G+ users, with female users accounting for 29.2 per cent.
