Facebook has updated its iOS app with a range of new features designed to keep its mobile users engaged.

Speedy

Facebook 5.1 for iOS is twice as fast as the previous version, according to the social network.

Pictures

Facebook says that pictures will now load almost instantly, and has added a range of filters allowing users to enhance images. 

The filters can be used with Facebook Camera and are similar to those used by Instagram, which Facebook acquired earlier this year.

Multiple pictures can now be uploaded at once.

Gifts

Facebook Gifts launched in September and allows users to send digital and physical gifts to their Facebook friends.

The new update now means users can use Gifts via mobile.

On the move

While not a major update, the iOS refresh shows the increasing importance Facebook is placing on enhancing its mobile offering.

Facebook 5.1 for iOS is now available from the App Store.
